Project

North Queensland Reservoir

Case study

Project brief

Successive cyclones and extended dry seasons within the North Queensland area highlighted the need for additional emergency storage capacity, and a new reservoir would also reduce the occurrence of turbid water which could be a potential source of health risk entering the water supply system.

This new reservoir was constructed by the team at Reliant Solutions which comprises 4.5 ML storage located off Intake Road, Bulgun, 7 km north of the town of Tully, approximately 300 m from the existing water supply intake on Bulgun Creek.

Reliant Solutions worked extensively with the client to provide a design and build reservoirs which meet all local codes and standards. Construction included construction of the 26.47m diameter reservoir, associated pipework, a future chlorination shed and a dedicated bunded area and landscaping. The gabion wall which is to up 2.5m high around the base of the batter provides toe protection and erosion control and divert overland flow around the concrete pad.
