Project

Cassowary Coast Regional Council’s Water Reservoir Aluminium Geodesic Dome Roof

Project brief

Ensuring the primary supply of quality potable water from Queensland’s abundant 3700mm annual rainfall with deteriorating infrastructure is a challenge shared by many councils.

The Cassowary Coast Regional Council were confronted with finding a solution for its deteriorating retrofitted floating polyvinyl roof in an existing concrete reservoir built in the 1930s.

The Queensland coast location also demanded a solution robust enough to withstand the extremes of tropical cyclones and other possible negative weather events.

A custom designed Geodesic Dome roof supplied and installed by Reliant Solutions would ensure the security of the region’s valuable water supply and the opportunity to remove the existing floating roof from the tank.

The low-maintenance, all-aluminium Geodesic Dome roofs are lightweight and UV stable. Its design provides a superior strength which has the ability to combat intense winds and withstand heavy snow loads.

Reliant Solutions have long been recognised in the water and wastewater treatment industries for providing the Geodesic Dome roofs.

Their experience in the industry has shown them the non-corrosive qualities of aluminium makes it a compatible material to use in water in water and wastewater treatment situations.

Lifting the 35.78m Geodesic Dome roof into place with a 250 tonne crane was certainly a sight you did not want to miss; hope you enjoy the video.
